Wikipedia starts its description of Sustainability with these sentences –
“Sustainability is the ability to exist constantly. In the 21st century, it refers generally to the capacity for the biosphere and human civilization to co-exist.”
A mouthful to be sure and when stated this way, it goes from a common sense concept to something much fuzzier and less capable of assimilation.
What constitutes “Sustainability” in fact differs from individual to individual, making it difficult to evaluate any company’s sustainability statement. For that reason, CuSalus and its parent company, Colonial Bronze decided to contract with the leading third party auditor of environmental sustainability claim to independently evaluate our company’s sustainability.
Since 2006, Colonial Bronze has worked with and been audited by SCS Global Services (https://www.scsglobalservices.com/) to keep us on the path of improving our ability to co-exist with our environment. We are required to document
• The source of our copper alloys,
• The recycled content information from the mills that produce our materials
• How the material we purchase is used to make our products and
• How we handle and recycle the by products that come from the process of making our products
The information must be sufficient to accurately state what percentage of recycled content goes into our product. The required documentation is reviewed by SCS Global analysts and if sufficient, results in a certification of the recycled content of our products. It is important to note that the certification we receive is ONLY VALID FOR ONE YEAR and must be submitted annually to maintain the certification.
Our products are currently certified to contain 94% pre-consumer recycled content. Our annual certificate is shown below.
Our Metal Supplier:
CuSalus® is proud work with Wieland Group’s CuVerro® copper alloy product line.
CuVerro® is an EPA approved supplier of antimicrobial copper. Every product they offer is made from up to 100% recycled copper material and is 100% recyclable. In fact, nearly all of the copper mined to date is still in use because the recycling rate of copper is higher than any other engineering metal.
In the CuSalus® factory, we capture every speck of unused metal – saw kerf, CNC turning and milling waste, etc. Every piece, no matter how small is stored and sent to our recycling company on a regular schedule. No metal is wasted in our Torrington, Connecticut facility.
Popular styles are always changing and CuSalus® is listening to the market. We continually add new styles of antimicrobial copper hardware products that will compliment the form and function of spaces being created by talented designers.
Our commitment to timely product styling motivates our distributor showrooms to constantly add and remove product from their CuSalus® displays. Please rest assured that Colonial Bronze works with our distributors to have each and every displayed product returned to our Connecticut factory where it is reused or recycled.
